Art and Writing Prizes 2021

The Sustainability First 2021 Art and Essay Prizes are now open for applications.

This year's theme is:

'Together for a Fair Climate Future'

The theme brings together the climate crisis, fairness in society, and how we work together to achieve a more sustainable future. The prizes are open to UK based artists and writers over the age of 18 years. The winning artist and writer will each receive £1,000 and will be featured as part of a virtual book ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference in the UK.

Writing Prize 2021

We want to hear writers' imaginative visions, creative ideas, and practical steps for societal change. We're inviting pieces of writing that respond to the question: How do we achieve meaningful social changes in the UK to tackle the climate crisis and develop a fairer society? This could include an article, a personal account, an essay, a short story, or a poem.

First prize: £1,000

Deadline: 10 July, 2021

Art Prize 2021

We are looking for artworks from established and emerging visual artists that respond to the theme 'Together for a Fair Climate Future'. The works must be original, created in any media - including but not limited to digital, drawing, painting, sculpture, installation and textiles.

Reconnecting Exhibition

Bermondsey Project Space

Tue - Sat, 11am - 6pm

An exhibition about making connections to each other and nature during the Covid-19 pandemic. Featuring artworks by Hugo Lami, artist in residence at UK Power Networks, who has been using waste pipes and wires to explore relationships between nature and technology, and shortlisted works from the 2020 Sustainability First Art Prize.

The Sustainability First Art and Essay Prizes 2020, invited original, radical ideas and visions in response to the question: “How do we build from the current corona crisis towards a more sustainable future?”. Learn more about the shortlisted artists and writers, and read our virtual book.
