This gallery showcases a series of work by Joanne Coates
Joanneās work focuses on rural life, class inequality and social justice. Her practice centers on process, participation and collaboration with communities. She is deeply connected to the North Sea coastline, with previous experience of working with fishing communities in Aberdeen and Orkney. During the residency, she will work between Scarborough and Hull, developing photographs, telling stories, capturing and sharing oral and written histories. She will also offer a series of workshops with coastal communities, to explore themes of climate change, sustainable energy and the role of the sea in forming a sense of identity.
